Project Overview
Laurens Commission of Public Works needed infrastructure in place to support growth around the Hunter Industrial area. With a new substation built to serve increasing demand, Laurens CPW required a contractor that could move quickly, execute cleanly, and manage both power and fiber scopes without creating additional coordination burden.
ElectriCom delivered a complete solution across power and telecom/fiber, helping Laurens CPW prepare for future system needs while reinforcing the value of a dependable, multi-division infrastructure partner.
“They told him 7 days and he didn’t believe it — thought it would take 10 to 15. On day seven, we were completely done and rolled out.”
The Challenge
Supporting growth with limited internal resources
Laurens CPW serves a growing industrial area south of Greenville, South Carolina, near Interstate 385. As development increased, the utility needed additional power capacity to support the industrial park.
The project had several important considerations:
-
Laurens CPW needed infrastructure completed before the new transmission line was brought in.
-
The work needed to be completed quickly, efficiently, and to specification.
-
The project represented an important Southeast power opportunity for ElectriCom.
This was more than a infrastructure project. It was a chance to help a municipal utility prepare for economic growth while proving ElectriCom’s local execution capability in the Southeast.
“Other than one street light adjustment, there were zero defects.”
“When we were done, it was 100% complete to their specs — they didn’t have to touch it again.”
The Solution
One accountable partner for power and fiber
ElectriCom delivered a turnkey infrastructure solution that included both power building and ADSS fiber work.
Power Scope
-
Four-circuit build from Laurens CPW’s new substation
-
Approximately 1,300 ft of builing
-
Two double-circuit lines
-
Final energization support
Fiber Scope
-
Approximately 30,000 ft of ADSS fiber build
-
96-count fiber on the power build
-
Fiber termination
-
Splicing
-
Testing
By combining power and fiber capabilities, ElectriCom reduced the need for Laurens CPW to coordinate multiple contractors and helped ensure the work was completed as one connected infrastructure project.
Execution
Strategy
Focused crews. Fast delivery. Clean closeout. ElectriCom assigned one power crew and one ADSS fiber crew to complete the work.
Timeline
The power build was completed in 7 days. The ADSS fiber work was completed in 3 days. Power build finished well ahead of the 10–15 day expectation.
Performance
ElectriCom completed the project with nothing left to correct at closeout. The client walked the full job and found zero defects.
Precision
At final inspection, the only adjustment requested was a minor change to the angle of one streetlight, marking a nearly flawless execution.
Results
Completed faster than expected
ElectriCom completed the power build in 7 days, ahead of the customer’s expected 10–15 day window.
Zero defects at final inspection
The project was built to specification on the first pass, with no rework required.
Lower-cost, efficient execution
ElectriCom’s efficiency helped deliver the project at a good cost for Laurens CPW, creating more flexibility for the customer.
Stronger local credibility
The project gave ElectriCom a local Southeast power reference point — an important asset in a relationship-driven utility market.
Long-term relationship potential
After the project, Laurens CPW indicated ElectriCom would “always get a callback” for future needs.
ElectriCom’s Role
ElectriCom helped Laurens CPW reduce execution risk by providing:
- Multi-division power and fiber capability
- Fast field execution
- One accountable contractor
- Quality work with zero defects
- Strong communication and client coordination
- Local credibility for future utility partnerships.
“We were a one-stop shop — power build, ADSS, termination, splicing, testing — everything from start to finish.”
Client Impact & Outcomes
ElectriCom delivered a fast, fully turnkey solution that allowed Laurens CPW to complete critical infrastructure ahead of schedule and with zero rework. The project was finished in just 7 days for power and 3 days for fiber, exceeding expectations and reducing timeline risk. With zero defects at final inspection and a single contractor managing all scopes, Laurens CPW benefited from simplified coordination, cost-efficient execution, and a trusted partner for future projects.
